THE SECRET TO UNFORGETTABLE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHS IS FINDING A GREAT ‘STORYTELLER’

January 18th, 2012

You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep
because reality is finally better than your dreams.
~ Dr. Seuss~

Love is such a sweet thing. Some think it might take a lifetime to find a soulmate and fall in love…   regardless of how long it takes to find that special love, it takes just a second to miss the thrill of it all. Just as in Emily Bronte’s ‘Wuthering Heights’, Heathcliff misses out on the love of his life due to unfortunate circumstances.

Golden Vision Photography provides professional photojournalist / traditional skills to put together a story of your wedding day. We’ll portray your personality and emotion to each shot that captures the moments of your special day of love. Our goal is tell your story in such a way, you’ll fall in love again every time you remember a touch, a smile and how it was captured through the vision of our lens, without missing a cherished moment.

Carefully looking over  wedding pictures and selecting the real “storytellers” is what all good wedding photographers do. Editing wedding pictures takes more time than photographing the wedding itself and it is a carefully considered process.

Golden Vision looks for angles, lighting  and composition that will bring out the most attractive images of you, to assure that you look your very best, while bringing out your stunning personality!  That’s our guarantee to you! A wedding which will be a lifetime memory, and we want yours to be all you are hoping for. We strive to find the unique look each person can deliver.

We also look  for a touch, a moment, or an expression within the picture that is unexpected, but natural and beautiful! From the following contact sheets retrieved from editing software, we are showing how a selection may be acquired as storytelling images. We choose our title image to create a soft, calming rendition of our bride taking a few moments to collect herself. In the contact sheet below, it took a few frames before we could get one that would work for this theme.
We offer two photographers for every wedding, a great number of pictures are recorded, many times more than 1800 or more.

Because we are capturing images to tell the individual stories as the wedding unfolds, important feelings must be captured to complete the story.

In the opening picture above, we intentionally softened  our selection to a black and white image to make a glamour portrait of Jacque during a private moment at the Terraces in Coeur d’Alene, ID. Capturing the right image and perfect lighting at the right moment is all about the emotion and attitude and timing and then applying artistic techniques to view the subjects in different ways.

In the picture below, we photographed Laci and Dustin enjoying a bit of relaxation following their vows at The White House Wedding and Events Center in Coeur d’Alene, ID.

We LOVE the joy and happiness they both express. Adding a bit of texture, highlights the couple for this particular image.

Our last example taken during Laci and Dustin’s wedding, we used a variety of lens to pull special effects.

We focused on the flower girl with a long lens, capturing her adorable expressions throughout the entire event.

As the daylight was illuminating her through a nearby window, we captured her spontaneous pose as she was highlighted in a more pleasing way.

The flower girl happened to be Laci’s daughter, and the image below shows just how much joy and affection was expressed between them.

Our artistic skills provide beauty and elegance in all of the custom designed engagement, wedding prints and books we offer. You’ll cherish these for a lifetime as  precious keepsakes!

Not only do we provide excellent photography and customer service, we will help you work out any detail which you might be questioning or needing additional assistance. We are happy to provide updated information on various venues, dresses, entertainment and much more. PRIVILEGE TO PHOTOGRAPH: ‘THE SOUND OF HOPE’ ~~ ASANTE CHILDREN’S CHOIR

January 10th, 2012

Golden Vision Photography had the privilege to attend and photography the Asante Children’s Choir performing at Lake City Community Church Coeur d’Alene, ID. Sunday January 8, 2012

What a thrill! What a remarkable achievement this not for profit organization has made in the lives of African children!

DON’T MISS THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE THIS GROUP! The Asante Children’s Choir will be performing for free at the Kroc Center in Coeur d’Alene, ID
January 10th  2012 / 7:00 PM

The Asante Children’s Choir is made up of vibrant young boys and girls from East Africa. The children were selected for the choir based on their musical talent and desperate need. Their personal stories are brilliantly told through cultural music, costumes and dancing. The children’s radiant faces exclaim “Asante” pr “Thank You” to their sponsors on behalf of all the children back home who are being helped through their support.

The purpose of the Asante Children’s Choir is dedicated to raising awareness for the desperate plight of East Africa’s orphans. Nearly all the children in the choir are orphaned but now receive a free education and medical care through the work of the choir.

The Asante Children’s Choir is a partnership of individuals caring for orphans and vulnerable children in regions of East Africa which have been divested by civil war and genocide. The mission is to walk in the love of God by providing opportunities to those suffering from poverty. Today the work of Asante supports countless children by providing free education and medical care through child sponsorship and the construction of primary schools.

Your support towards the work of the Asante Children’s Choir is helping to build sustainable communities in East Africa, one child at a time.

For more information, including how to get involved or to book the choir, please visit: http://www.asantechoir.org

WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY: EAGLES OF COEUR D’ALENE, IDAHO

January 7th, 2012

In taking a bit of a break from after the holidays, decorating and eating most of the left overs…. we, Golden Vision Photography, decided to spend one beautiful sunny winter afternoon soaring with the eagles at Higgins Point Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Our winter so far has been particularly warm, so spending some time by the lake with friends and family and camera in hand was ideal!

After photographing these spectacular eagles, we decided to research and provide our readers with more information for their visit to our extraordinary  lakeside. Enjoy!

Bald eagles pair for life. They remain aloof from other pairs in their northern nesting areas, raising their young and feeding on fish. Prey disappears as Canadian winters bring deep snows and sub-zero temperatures to eagle habitat. Each fall, the birds leave their nesting areas and migrate south to milder climates where they spend the winter. As they migrate, bald eagles become more social, often congregating at winter grounds.

Wolf Lodge Bay along Coeur d’Alene Lake in northern Idaho is one of many wintering grounds along the eagles’ annual migration route. Steep mountains covered with western larch, Douglas-fir, ponderosa pine and grand fir rise from the lakeshore. It provides ideal habitat for kokanee salmon – a primary winter food source for bald eagles. Wolf Lodge Bay harbors an abundant supply of these small, landlocked salmon.

During November, the land-locked kokanee salmon in Coeur d’Alene Lake begin to spawn along the shallow waters of the lake. After the fish spawn, they die and float to the surface of the water, creating an abundant food source for the migrating eagles, particularly in Wolf Lodge Bay. The eagles, lured by the spawning fish, are sustained by this plentiful supply of spawned-out kokanee.

Bald eagles begin arriving in the Coeur d’Alene area in late November with numbers increasing through mid- to late-December. The number of eagles fluctuates based on the number of dead and dying kokanee. By the first week in January the number of spawning salmon declines and most of the eagles have dispersed.  Only a few eagles remain in the area through portions of January and February as most have departed for more southerly destinations along their migration route before returning to their traditional nesting sites. Eagles do not nest at Wolf Lodge Bay but there are nesting sites in other parts of northern Idaho.  The number of eagles observed from year to year varies from 10 to 156, with an average of 54.

Bird watching at Wolf Lodge Bay has become increasingly popular over recent years and for good reasons. It’s a place where you can see our national bird in its natural environment, close enough to observe it soaring, hunting or perched on a tree. Eagles circle above the water or peer down from the rugged limb of a larch snag. Studies of their daily activities reveal the complexity and magnificence of bald eagles’ behavior and their role in the delicate balance of nature.

As mid-morning approaches, eagles begin to limit their feeding activity and settle on perches. They seem to prefer certain trees and even favorite limbs. The preferred perches are usually the taller trees with open branches close to the water. If weather conditions are inclement, the eagles are likely to spend the rest of the day perched on branches of their favorite conifers.

On windy days, eagles take advantage of turbulent air currents and soar high above the water. As wind speed increases, so do the soaring activities. During these times, eagles spend less time feeding and perching and more time flying. Eagles have been observed gliding in graceful, almost motionless flight for several hours at a time.

Kokanee salmon were introduced into Coeur d’Alene Lake in 1937, and bald eagles started inhabiting the area soon afterwards. These salmon mature in about three years and reach a length of about 11 inches. Their three-year life cycle ends in November as females lay eggs and males fertilize the eggs. After spawning, the fish die and float to the surface of the water, creating the abundant food source for the eagles.

Although most of the eagles’ fishing takes place during the early morning, some feeding may occur throughout the daylight hours. Dawn finds the eagles arriving at the fishing area from their communal night roost. As they arrive, they position themselves on perches in trees near the water’s edge. From these vantage points, they scan the water in search of dead or dying salmon.

Upon sighting their prey, the eagles glide from the perches, circle above the floating salmon, and in a descending spiral motion snatch the fish from the water. With the salmon firmly grasped in their talons, they return to nearby perches to feed.

Of utmost importance to the eagle’s future use of Wolf Lodge Bay is the continued, unaltered spawning of kokanee salmon along the shores of the bay. Without abundant spawned-out kokanee, the large concentration of eagles would not exist here. Also important is protection of the daytime perching areas.

The eagle habitat at Wolf Lodge Bay includes Bureau of Land Management (BLM), private, state and National Forest lands. Several years ago, the BLM developed a cooperative bald eagle habitat protection plan to ensure preservation of this winter sanctuary. The plan calls for maintenance of habitat and an ongoing monitoring effort focusing on the 332-acre BLM Bald Eagle Management Area along Wolf Lodge Bay and Beauty Bay.

No one really knows just how much disturbance would permanently drive the eagles away. Studies at Wolf Lodge Bay show that the eagles have some tolerance to humans, but the extent is unknown. Visitors need to limit their activities, such as walking along the road or approaching the eagles as they perch. Otherwise, they could cause these wild birds to fly away from the immediate area, and spoil the opportunity for other people to watch them.

Eagles have a beauty and grace fitting their status as our national emblem. As with most birds of prey, the female eagle is larger and heavier than the male. They weigh an average of 12 pounds with a maximum wingspan of seven feet and a body length of nearly three feet. Bald eagles are lighter than they appear. The bulk of an eagle is its feathers; its bones are hollow and much lighter than the bones of mammals.

Adult eagles are easily detected by their brilliant white heads and tail feathers and chocolate brown bodies and wings. They have black talons and yellow eyes, beaks and feet. The majority of the eagles at Wolf Lodge Bay are adults, but you may see several dark, mottled juvenile eagles. Immature eagles do not obtain their adult colors until they are about five years old.

In captivity, bald eagles have a life expectancy of up to 50 years. In their natural environment, the chance of bald eagles reaching such an age is slim because of environmental hazards and stresses. In the wild, almost 80 percent of young eagles die during their first year, and many of the remaining 20 percent die before reaching maturity. Bald eagle productivity is naturally low, as with most other long-lived species. Excessive mortality to these birds is much more serious than in species with higher rates of reproduction.

The eyes of eagles give them a hunting advantage. Eagles’ eyes are three to four times more powerful and sharper than human eyes and contain many times the number of color-sensitive cones. Their eyes are located on the side of the head, giving them a wide field of view. Although they have relatively poor night vision, during the day they can pinpoint their prey in vivid detail from great distances. At Wolf Lodge Bay their eyesight enables them to easily detect floating fish.

BUDGETING TIPS FOR WEDDING PLANNING FROM THE BEST IN THE INDUSTRY

December 31st, 2011

In keeping with our goal to help you stay up to date on wedding trends, starting with New Year’s eve 2011 and throughout the next few weeks Golden Vision Photography will be offering a serious of tidbits from the wedding industry regarding cost cutting ideas. Please feel free to comment.

Tip #1: Booking a wedding can be challenging…and pricey! To help reduce the cost of your reception area, dates from November to April are more affordable and available (with the exception of Holidays). Occasionally you may find that Fridays and Sundays will be a bit less as well during peak months.

Happy New Year everyone!
In hoping to bring you the best from the wedding industry, here is tip number two in our serious of money saving tips.

Tip #2: Celebrate early, and consider throwing your party before 5 p.m: Brunches and lunches may save you a bit and mean a less expensive tab for the location, meal, and bar.

In continuing on through January with our ‘cost cutting’ series for wedding planning…. here is the next suggestion from the wedding industry.

Tip #3: Try to reduce rental costs by picking a site that’s already outfitted with tables, linens and chairs. Another option would be broadening your search to include less common, and less in-demand venues, such as a home or state park. You could also connect with a local real estate agent to see if there homes in the market who’s owners would be open to renting it out for the night.

Tip #4:  Set aside money for your dress, but unless you’re a perfect sample size, that number also has to cover any hemming up, taking in, or letting out your gown needs to fit you like a dream. Some bridal salons include alterations in the price of the dress; many don’t, and they can cost anywhere from $50 – $600.

Tip #5: Cut the cost of a bar bill by nixing a full bar and serving only wine, beer and soft drinks. Looking for more of a splash with hard liquor? Have the bartender concoct one delish mixed drink, and offer it as your signature cocktail.

Tip #6: When selecting your accessories, traditional items or something more exclusive can be expensive. Be sure to look for several features that might come along with the price tag. Some items may be available for ‘rent’, which may save you dollars to be used elsewhere. This Norwegian wedding crown was purchased for over $1000.00, but available through specialty stores for much less if rented.
It’s true you can order a veil online for as little as $15. If you want an exact match to the lace on your gown, though, you may need to cough up a lot more. Don’t forget to budget for a necklace, earrings, a bracelet, a wedding ring , shoes, comfy shoes to change into (if you hate heels like I do), and a pretty bag if you’ll want one to carry around.

NEW TRENDS FOR 2012: ENGAGEMENT RINGS

December 27th, 2011

Once again we are doing our research for new and exciting trends in the wedding industry. This article  focuses on engagement rings, and the new trend in rings is really  something to be excited about! Enjoy our latest wedding post, and we will be back with more trendsetting and traditional information after ‘ringing’ in the New Year!

Whether you love the traditional, sentimental or trendy  engagement rings, choices now include stunning colors styles and arrangements that will bring a sparkle to any eye.

Bands and Settings

A dazzling solitaire stone is usually the focus of an engagement ring. The center gem is going to continue being the focal point on any ring, but there is more to just a stunning ‘twist’ with settings and new bands. Twirled and twisted, these intricate ring designs delight us with movement and playful sparkle. Stunning braids and weaves offer a delicate look, and high-profile settings reveal more detail and highlight the solitaire.  Two-tone rings combine a spiraling twinkle of color and craftsmanship.

Settings With  Halo Affect

A popular, but not so new trend has had celebrities enjoying the various shapes for several years. One being the halo style setting, which offers a touch of nastalgia along with a bit of  wistfulness.  The unbroken circle also symbolizes the unity of the happy couple, while the framing stones make the center solitaire appear larger.  Many times the center stone will sparkle more brightly is a color is selected, such as a blue saffire, or emerald.  This setting is frequently paired with relatively slender bands embedded with pavé stones or rich milgrain work.

Spectacular Stones and Settings

Today we’re now seeing more ring choices glowing with color. The priciest are colored diamonds in yellow, pink, blue, chocolate and even dynamic black. The next tier offers other precious and durable stones like rubies, emeralds, tanzanites and sapphires of all hues. Just as eye-catchingly colorful and a bit more affordable, are the semi-precious sparklers  in citrine, blue topaz, garnet and peridot. Yellow gold is making a serious comeback, and rose gold is equally delicious. For a engaging twist, have it all with a multi-tone engagement ring in white, yellow and rose.

Estate, Antique and Vintage Style

The ornate detailing of Victorian and Edwardian jewelry, and Art Nouveau’s free-form curves are alway an engaging selection. Destined to return to the romantic eras, these rings are heavy on embellishment, with intricate filigree creating mesmerizing bands and settings. Usually you will find the use of pavéd  stones, which increases the sparkle. Floral and nature-inspired designs offer  charm and leaf motifs, while the more geometrically clean choice of a three-stone ring is reminiscent  to the Victorian era while symbolizing a couple’s past, present and future.

HOLIDAYS & HEROES

December 8th, 2011

The holiday season is approaching bringing wonderful events and memories for our community members. Although many of us will be celebrating with our families, others are not as fortunate. Sadly, some in our community do not have the basic necessities, let alone the opportunity to feel the joy of Christmas. This year as in years past, the Post Falls Police Department, Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department, Coeur d’Alene Police Department, Coeur d’Alene Tribal Police, Kootenai County Fire & Rescue, Rathdrum Police Department, Spirit Lake Police Department, Idaho State Police, Spokane County Sheriff’s Department, and numerous volunteers are proud to join together and participate in the ‘Holidays and Heroes’ program.

Police officers and firefighters volunteer their time to make this event special, and are happy to work in partnership with businesses, civic groups, and citizens in the surrounding area to make a disadvantaged child’s Christmas a little bit brighter. The agencies will be following the same format as in prior years in which several police officers and firefighters will take children shopping for the day. Children’s names are provided to the organizers by School Resource Officers, school counselors, patrol officers, deputy sheriffs, or firefighters who have come into contact with a less fortunate child during the past year.

The event begins on December 11th. Children are picked up at their homes by a police officer in a patrol car and then taken to the Wal-Mart in the Spokane Valley or in Post Falls. Police and firefighters take the children through the store picking out Christmas gifts for the children and their families.  After the shopping is complete, the children are taken to the Greyhound Park to visit with Santa. The Greyhound Park facility is provided free of charge for the event. While the children are meeting Santa, volunteers wrap their presents, and prepare a large food basket for the children’s families. At the end of the day, the officers load the presents and food into their patrol cars and take the children home. All of the officers and firefighters participating are volunteering their time.

‘Holidays and Heroes’ is now accepting cash donations and food items that can be dropped off at the Post Falls Police Department at 1717 E. Polston Ave., Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department at 5500 N. Government Way, Rathdrum Police Department at 8178 W. Main St., the CdA Police Department at 3818 Schreiber Way, and Kootenai County Fire Administration Office at 5271 E. Seltice Way. As more donations are provided, additional children can be put on our shopping list. Citizens are asked to make a food or cash donation at upcoming food drive events in Spokane and Coeur d’Alene where police and fire departments will be participating.
